Advancing Underwater Communications

Yahong Rosa Zheng is through her research project Acoustic Modems for Real-Time Underwater Wireless Communications. Her team developed a high-frequency MIMO acoustic system and applied turbo equalization algorithms to improve the reliability and speed of data transmission underwater. The technology has led to the creation of Sea-Gal Technologies, a startup recognized with both a NOAA Ocean Enterprise Accelerator Award and an NSF Seed Fund award.
